Personal Trainer
About me
HI, I'm Emily
I am currently a personal trainer and fitness coach at PureGym London Finchley. After finishing University, I qualified with YMCAfit, one of the UKs top training centres, as a personal trainer. Having been passionate about fitness all my life and having dabbled in many different sporting activities including swimming, horseback riding, rock climbing and cheerleading, weight training is where I really found my passion.
I began strength training almost unintentionally when I joined my university cheerleading team. Cheerleading is all about throwing and catching your teammate, and with training multiple times a week, my strength improved.
The stronger we were, the higher we could throw our teammate and the better we could perform our stunts and execute the moves. Perhaps most importantly, as our strength improved, we were also far less likely to be injured!
I did cheer all the way through university and was the captain of the team during my final year. It was only when I left university, however, that I found my passion for lifting weights.
After completing university, I found myself in an office job I had absolutely no interest in and craved some kind of activity where I could really enjoy myself. I joined my local gym for a number of reasons.
Firstly, I wanted to engage in some kind of physical activity again as my life had become extremely sedentary. Weight training struck me as somewhat similar to cheer as they both involve lifting weight, so I thought it would be a good choice.
I got myself a personal trainer who wrote me a plan and helped me stick to my goals, and this provided me with some stability and motivation, something I lacked in every other area of my life at the time. Lastly, the gym sessions were my way of escaping my otherwise extremely boring life. After working in an office 9-5 doing something I hated, the gym provided me with some kind of escape in which for an hour to two, where I could engage in a stimulating experience after spending all day sat down.
It became clear to me very quickly that this is what I wanted to do with my life. I am a very friendly and sociable person, I love to work with others and ultimately, I want to help and lead people through their own fitness journey and share my passion for something that has worked so well for me and continues to be so important to me. I have the knowledge, understanding, and experience to assist people in achieving their goals through strength training, and I want to help people achieved their goals, just like I have and continue to do every day.
